That was somebody elseโ€™s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make budae jjigae

2 genuinely different takes โ€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Everything in

30 minutes ยท serves 4 ยท Very easy

What you need

  • 1 tin spam, sliced
  • 4 frankfurter sausages, sliced
  • 200g kimchi with its juice
  • 1 block tofu, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp gochugaru
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 800ml stock
  • 1 pack instant noodles
  • 2 slices processed cheese
  • 2 spring onions

What you do

  1. 1Arrange everything except the noodles, cheese and spring onion in a wide pan in neat sections. It matters for about a minute and then it does not.
  2. 2Mix the gochugaru, gochujang, garlic and soy into a paste and dot it in the middle.
  3. 3Pour the stock around and bring to a boil.
  4. 4Boil hard for 10 minutes, then add the noodles and cook 3 minutes more.
  5. 5Cheese on top, spring onion, and take it to the table still going.

Without the tin

25 minutes ยท serves 3 ยท Very easy

What you need

  • Good sausages
  • Bacon
  • Kimchi
  • Tofu
  • Gochugaru
  • Stock
  • Noodles
  • Cheese

What you do

  1. 1Fry the sausage and bacon first so the fat gets into it.
  2. 2Everything else as above. Better ingredients, slightly worse dish, and that is the joke.
