That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make omelette

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

French-style, barely coloured

8 minutes · serves 1 · Medium

What you need

  • 3 eggs
  • Knob of butter
  • Salt
  • Chives, chopped

What you do

  1. 1Beat the eggs well with a pinch of salt — no milk, no water.
  2. 2Melt butter in a non-stick pan over medium-low until foaming but not brown.
  3. 3Pour in the eggs and stir constantly with a spatula for 30 seconds, then stop.
  4. 4When the top is just barely wet, fold a third over, roll onto the plate.
  5. 5Scatter chives. The middle should still be soft.

Loaded, folded, forgiving

12 minutes · serves 1 · Easy

What you need

  • 3 eggs
  • Handful of grated cheese
  • Mushrooms or peppers, sliced
  • Butter
  • Salt and pepper

What you do

  1. 1Fry the vegetables in butter until soft, then lift out.
  2. 2Beat and season the eggs, pour into the same pan over medium heat.
  3. 3Pull the set edges into the centre and tilt so raw egg runs out.
  4. 4When almost set, add the filling and cheese to one half and fold over.
  5. 5Give it a minute off the heat so the cheese melts through.
