That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make shakshuka

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

The standard, worth the time

30 minutes Β· serves 2 Β· Easy

What you need

  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 400g tin chopped tomatoes
  • 4 eggs
  • Bread, to mop

What you do

  1. 1Soften the onion and pepper in oil for 10 minutes β€” properly soft, not just translucent.
  2. 2Add garlic and spices, stir for a minute until it smells like something.
  3. 3Tip in the tomatoes, season, and simmer 10 minutes until thick enough to hold a trench.
  4. 4Make four wells, crack an egg into each, cover and cook 5–7 minutes.
  5. 5Take it off while the yolks still move. Bread is not optional.

Green, with spinach

20 minutes Β· serves 2 Β· Easy

What you need

  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 200g spinach
  • 4 eggs
  • Cumin
  • Lemon
  • Olive oil

What you do

  1. 1Soften the onion, add garlic and a big pinch of cumin.
  2. 2Wilt in the spinach a handful at a time, then stir through the cream.
  3. 3Season well and squeeze in lemon β€” green shakshuka needs the acid.
  4. 4Make wells, add the eggs, cover and cook until just set.
