That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make bangers and mash

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

With onion gravy

45 minutes · serves 4 · Easy

What you need

  • 8 sausages
  • 1kg floury potatoes
  • 100g butter
  • 120ml warm milk
  • 3 onions, sliced thin
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 1 tsp mustard

What you do

  1. 1Cook the onions in butter over a low heat for 25 minutes until they are properly brown. This is the gravy and it cannot be rushed.
  2. 2Fry the sausages slowly, 20 minutes, turning. Fast heat splits them.
  3. 3Flour into the onions, then the stock added gradually, then the mustard. Simmer 10 minutes.
  4. 4Boil and mash the potatoes, then beat in the butter and warm milk. Warm milk, or the mash goes gluey.
  5. 5A crater in the mash, sausages leaning on it, gravy poured into the hole.
