Baked in clusters, and you pick the big ones out first.

That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make granola

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Clustered

45 minutes · serves 12 · Very easy

What you need

  • 400g rolled oats
  • 150g nuts, roughly chopped
  • 80ml oil
  • 120ml maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Salt

What you do

  1. 1Mix everything and spread it in one layer on a big tray, pressed down firmly. Pressing is what makes clusters.
  2. 2Bake at 150C for 35 minutes, turning the tray once but not stirring it.
  3. 3Cool completely on the tray before you break it up. It crisps as it cools, not in the oven.

With dried fruit

45 minutes · serves 12 · Very easy

What you need

  • 400g oats
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Oil and syrup
  • 150g dried fruit

What you do

  1. 1Bake the oats, nuts and seeds as above.
  2. 2Stir the dried fruit in only after it comes out — in the oven it turns to charcoal.
