That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make koshari

One way to do it. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Carbohydrate on carbohydrate

60 minutes Β· serves 4 Β· Medium

What you need

  • 200g rice
  • 150g brown lentils
  • 100g small pasta
  • 1 tin chickpeas
  • 3 onions
  • 400g passata
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chilli
  • Oil

What you do

  1. 1Slice the onions thinly and fry them slowly until deep brown and crisp. Take your time; they are the best part.
  2. 2Cook lentils, rice and pasta separately. Together they turn to paste.
  3. 3For the sauce, cook passata with cumin, chilli and a good slug of vinegar until sharp.
  4. 4Layer: lentils, rice, pasta, chickpeas.
  5. 5Sauce over, fried onions on top, in that order. Mix at the table.
