That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make olivier salad

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

The New Year one

45 minutes · serves 6 · Very easy

What you need

  • 4 potatoes
  • 3 carrots
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 chicken breasts, poached
  • 6 pickled cucumbers
  • 200g peas
  • 250g mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Dill
  • Salt and pepper

What you do

  1. 1Boil the potatoes and carrots whole, and hard-boil the eggs. Cool everything completely.
  2. 2Dice everything to the same size — about 7mm. This is the entire craft of the dish and it is worth doing properly.
  3. 3Fold together with the peas, mayonnaise, mustard and a lot of black pepper.
  4. 4An hour in the fridge before serving, minimum. It needs to settle.
  5. 5Dill on top. It will be better tomorrow and gone by then.

Lighter, with less dressing

40 minutes · serves 4 · Very easy

What you need

  • Potato
  • Carrot
  • Eggs
  • Pickles
  • Peas
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • Lemon juice
  • Dill

What you do

  1. 1Same dice, same chilling, a third of the dressing.
  2. 2Loosen it with lemon and a spoon of the pickle brine instead. Sharper, and purists will tell you so.
