That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make samgyetang

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Whole small chicken

90 minutes Β· serves 2 Β· Easy

What you need

  • 1 small chicken (about 800g)
  • 4 tbsp glutinous rice, soaked 2 hours
  • 1 dried ginseng root
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • 4 jujubes
  • 1 spring onion
  • Salt and black pepper

What you do

  1. 1Rinse the chicken well and trim the tail fat.
  2. 2Stuff the cavity with the drained rice, two garlic cloves and a jujube. Cross the legs to close it.
  3. 3Sit it in a deep pot with the ginseng, the rest of the garlic and jujubes, and water to just cover.
  4. 4Bring up, skim, then simmer very gently for an hour. The broth should go pale and slightly thick.
  5. 5Serve in the bowl it cooked in. Salt and pepper on the side to dip the meat in, not in the pot.

With thighs, in half the time

  • Glutinous rice
  • Garlic
  • Jujube
  • Spring onion

What you do

  1. 1Everything in a pot with water to cover.
  2. 235 minutes gently. The rice cooks loose in the broth instead of in the bird.
