How to make khichdi

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

The one for when you are ill

30 minutes Β· serves 2 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 100g rice
  • 100g moong dal
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Salt

What you do

  1. 1Rinse the rice and dal together until the water clears.
  2. 2Simmer with the turmeric and 900ml water for 25 minutes, until nothing has its own shape any more. Add water if it tightens.
  3. 3Fry the cumin in the oil until it darkens and pour it over.
  4. 4Salt at the table. It should be loose enough to eat with a spoon.
