That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make smorrebrod

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Three classic ones

25 minutes Β· serves 2 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 6 slices dense rye bread
  • Butter
  • 200g pickled herring
  • 2 boiled eggs
  • 150g cold prawns
  • Mayonnaise
  • Dill
  • Radish
  • Lemon

What you do

  1. 1Butter the rye right to the edges. It is not optional β€” it stops the topping soaking in and it is half the flavour.
  2. 2Herring with sliced red onion and dill on the first.
  3. 3Egg, prawns, a spoon of mayonnaise and lemon on the second.
  4. 4Radish, more butter and flaky salt on the third.
  5. 5Built tall, eaten with a knife and fork, and never stacked into a sandwich.
