That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make spaghetti bolognese

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

The long one

150 minutes · serves 4 · Easy

What you need

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 celery stick, all finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 400g tin tomatoes
  • 150ml milk
  • 150ml red wine
  • Spaghetti

What you do

  1. 1Brown the mince hard in batches — crowd the pan and it steams instead.
  2. 2Soften the diced vegetables in the same pan for 10 minutes.
  3. 3Return the meat, add the milk and simmer until it disappears. Then the wine, same again.
  4. 4Add tomatoes and a splash of water, then the lowest possible heat for 2 hours.
  5. 5Season at the end, and loosen with pasta water when you toss it through.
