How to make swedish meatballs

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

With the cream sauce

50 minutes · serves 4 · Medium

What you need

  • 500g beef and pork mince
  • 60g breadcrumbs
  • 100ml milk
  • 1 onion, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 40g butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 500ml beef stock
  • 150ml double cream
  • Lingonberry jam

What you do

  1. 1Soak the breadcrumbs in the milk 5 minutes, then mix with the mince, grated onion, egg, allspice and plenty of salt. Roll small — smaller than you think.
  2. 2Fry in butter in batches until browned all over and lift out.
  3. 3Flour into the pan fat, cooked 2 minutes, then the stock added slowly, then the cream.
  4. 4Meatballs back in, simmered 15 minutes until the sauce coats them.
  5. 5Mash, and a spoon of lingonberry on the side of the plate.
