That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make toad in the hole

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Do not open the oven

50 minutes Β· serves 4 Β· Easy

What you need

  • 8 good sausages
  • 140g plain flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 200ml milk
  • 4 tbsp beef dripping or oil
  • Salt

What you do

  1. 1Make the batter first and rest it at least 30 minutes, or overnight. Rested batter rises far better.
  2. 2Get the fat smoking hot in the tin at 220C, then brown the sausages in it for 10 minutes.
  3. 3Pour the cold batter in round the sausages β€” cold batter into hot fat is the whole trick β€” and get it back in immediately.
  4. 4Twenty-five minutes, and do not open the door. Not once. It will collapse and it will not come back.
  5. 5Onion gravy, and mash if you are serious.

Individual ones
