That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make banh mi

One way to do it. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

A French loaf that emigrated

30 minutes · serves 2 · Easy

What you need

  • 1 baguette
  • 200g pork or pâté
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 daikon or radish
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • Coriander
  • Cucumber
  • Mayonnaise
  • Chilli

What you do

  1. 1Pickle the carrot and daikon at least an hour ahead in vinegar, sugar and salt. Without the pickle it is just a sandwich.
  2. 2Warm the baguette so the crust cracks and the inside stays soft.
  3. 3Pull out some of the crumb to make room. An overfull banh mi falls apart on the first bite.
  4. 4Mayonnaise on both sides, then pâté, then the meat.
  5. 5Pickle, cucumber, coriander and chilli. Press it shut and cut on the diagonal.
