That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make barley tea

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Boiled

15 minutes · serves 4 · Very easy

What you need

  • 4 tbsp roasted barley
  • 1.5L water

What you do

  1. 1Bring the water to the boil, add the barley and turn it down.
  2. 2Simmer 10 minutes. Longer makes it bitter rather than stronger.
  3. 3Strain. Hot in winter, and it is better than it sounds chilled in summer.

Cold brewed overnight

5 minutes · serves 4 · Very easy

What you need

  • 4 tbsp roasted barley
  • 1.5L cold water

What you do

  1. 1Barley and cold water in a jug.
  2. 2Fridge, 8 hours.
  3. 3Strain. Rounder and sweeter than the boiled kind.
