That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make bratwurst

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Simmered, then grilled

25 minutes · serves 4 · Very easy

What you need

  • 4 bratwurst
  • 500ml water or stock
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 rolls
  • Mustard
  • Sauerkraut

What you do

  1. 1Simmer the sausages gently in the liquid with the onion for 12 minutes. Gently — a hard boil splits them.
  2. 2Lift out, dry them, and grill or fry over a fierce heat for 4 minutes, turning, until the skin blisters and browns.
  3. 3The onions carry on cooking in the liquid and go on top.
  4. 4Roll, mustard, sausage, onions. Sauerkraut if you are in the mood.

Straight on the grill

15 minutes · serves 4 · Very easy

What you need

  • 4 bratwurst
  • 4 rolls
  • Mustard

What you do

  1. 1Medium heat, not high — 12 minutes, turned often. High heat splits the skin before the middle is done.
  2. 2Rest 2 minutes, then into the rolls.
