That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make bulgogi

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Marinated overnight

40 minutes · serves 4 · Easy

What you need

  • 600g sirloin, sliced paper thin
  • 1 pear, grated
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 4 spring onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • Lettuce leaves

What you do

  1. 1Freeze the beef 30 minutes first — it slices far thinner that way.
  2. 2Mix the marinade: the grated pear is not optional, it tenderises and sweetens at once.
  3. 3Marinate at least 2 hours, ideally overnight.
  4. 4Cook in a screaming hot pan in small batches. Any more and it boils.
  5. 5Sesame and spring onion over, wrapped in lettuce at the table.
