Hot toddy

Whisky, lemon, honey. Medicinal, allegedly.

That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make hot toddy

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

The standard

5 minutes Β· serves 1 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 50ml whisky
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 150ml hot water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • A slice of lemon with 3 cloves in it

What you do

  1. 1Warm the glass with hot water first and pour it away, or the drink is lukewarm in a minute.
  2. 2Honey into the glass, a splash of hot water, stirred until it has dissolved. Honey will not dissolve in cold spirit.
  3. 3Whisky and lemon juice in, then the rest of the water β€” hot, not boiling, or the whisky turns harsh.
  4. 4Cinnamon stick to stir with, clove-studded lemon floated on top.

Without the alcohol

5 minutes Β· serves 1 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 200ml hot water
  • Thumb of ginger, sliced
  • Cinnamon

What you do

  1. 1Steep the ginger and cinnamon in the hot water for 4 minutes.
  2. 2Honey and lemon stirred in off the heat.
