That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make kanelbullar

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Cardamom and pearl sugar

150 minutes · serves 16 · Medium

What you need

  • 500g strong flour
  • 250ml milk
  • 7g yeast
  • 80g sugar
  • 80g butter, softened
  • 2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 egg
  • For the filling: 100g butter, 100g sugar, 2 tbsp cinnamon, 1 tsp cardamom
  • Pearl sugar

What you do

  1. 1Warm the milk to blood heat, stir in the yeast, then the flour, sugar, cardamom and salt. Knead 10 minutes, working in the soft butter a bit at a time.
  2. 2Rise 1 hour until doubled.
  3. 3Roll to a large rectangle, spread with the beaten filling, then fold in three and cut into strips.
  4. 4Twist each strip and knot it around two fingers — a knot holds its shape where a spiral unrolls.
  5. 5Prove 45 minutes, egg wash, pearl sugar on, and bake at 220C for 10 minutes only. They dry out fast.
