That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make malva pudding

2 genuinely different takes — a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Drowned straight from the oven

60 minutes · serves 8 · Easy

What you need

  • 200g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp apricot jam
  • 150g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 150ml milk
  • For the sauce: 250ml cream, 100g butter, 100g sugar, 3 tbsp water

What you do

  1. 1Beat the sugar and eggs until pale, then beat in the jam.
  2. 2Melt the butter with the vinegar and add it with the milk, alternating with the flour and bicarbonate.
  3. 3Into a greased dish, 180C for 35 minutes until dark and risen.
  4. 4While it bakes, bring all the sauce ingredients to a boil together.
  5. 5The moment the pudding comes out, pour every drop of the hot sauce over it. It will look like far too much.
  6. 6Leave 10 minutes to drink it. Serve with cream or custard, which is excessive and correct.
