Matcha latte

Grassy, bitter, and better than it has any right to be.

That was somebody else’s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make matcha latte

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Whisked properly

5 minutes Β· serves 1 Β· Easy

What you need

  • 1.5 tsp matcha powder
  • 60ml water at 80C
  • 200ml milk
  • Honey or sugar, optional

What you do

  1. 1Sift the matcha into the cup. Unsifted matcha lumps and never recovers.
  2. 2Add the water β€” 80C, not boiling, or it turns bitter β€” and whisk in a W shape until it foams.
  3. 3Warm and froth the milk, then pour it in slowly against the side.
  4. 4Sweeten if you like; good matcha needs less than you think.

Iced

5 minutes Β· serves 1 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 1.5 tsp matcha
  • 60ml warm water
  • Cold milk
  • Ice
  • Syrup

What you do

  1. 1Sift and whisk the matcha with the warm water until smooth.
  2. 2Fill a glass with ice and cold milk, then pour the matcha over the top so it layers.
