How to make sardines on toast

2 genuinely different takes β€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

Four minutes

5 minutes Β· serves 1 Β· Very easy

What you need

  • 1 tin sardines in olive oil
  • 2 slices sourdough
  • 1 lemon
  • Chilli flakes
  • Parsley

What you do

  1. 1Toast the bread hard. It has to hold up.
  2. 2Mash the sardines roughly with a fork, bones and all β€” they are soft and they are most of the calcium.
  3. 3Pile on, squeeze the lemon, scatter chilli and parsley.
  4. 4Pour the oil from the tin over the top rather than draining it away.
