That was somebody elseโ€™s answer. Yours takes about twenty seconds: a handful of either-ors, then one dish.

How to make sukiyaki

2 genuinely different takes โ€” a classic, and a faster or lighter route. The same ones the app hands you once you have decided.

At the table

30 minutes ยท serves 4 ยท Easy

What you need

  • 600g beef sirloin, sliced paper thin
  • 100ml soy sauce
  • 100ml water
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 Chinese cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pack shiitake
  • 1 block firm tofu, cubed
  • 1 bundle shirataki noodles
  • 4 spring onions
  • 4 eggs

What you do

  1. 1Mix the soy, water and sugar. That is the whole sauce.
  2. 2Heat a heavy pan at the table. Rub it with a piece of beef fat, then lay in a few slices of beef and let them colour.
  3. 3Splash in some sauce, then add cabbage, mushrooms, tofu and noodles around the edges.
  4. 4Simmer gently โ€” top the sauce up with water as it reduces, it should not go salty.
  5. 5Everyone cracks an egg into their own bowl and beats it. Dip each hot piece in the raw egg before eating.
  6. 6Keep adding as you go. It should last an hour.
